Cougar Baseball Headed to NJCAA Division I Ranks

Beeville, TX- Coastal Bend College recently became one of the newest members to play baseball at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division I level. This move is effective immediately for this upcoming spring semester. The Cougars had previously competed at the NJCAA Division III level since 2014.

The move had previously been approved by the Coastal Bend College Board in recent weeks. Upon submitting a request to the NJCAA, it was promptly approved by NJCAA Region XIV Conference Athletic Directors and Presidents with the final approval coming from the national office.

Head Coach Brian Bauerle on the approval: " We've talked about this move for quite sometime and now it's finally here.  We're excited for this move and look to continue to grow as an institution and baseball program. I like the direction we're headed and happy for the players, they want to play at the highest level of competition and now we're apart of it. A lot of guys got a taste of it last spring as we played in Region XIV- Division I Conference during the regular season." Bauerle continued; " We're looking towards the challenge ahead and glad to be apart of one of the toughest junior college conferences in America."

Coastal Bend made school history this past spring by advancing to the NJCAA World Series in Greeneville, TN after beating Tyler Junior College in the District C Championship Series. The Cougars won their first game of the junior college world series against Oakton Community College, beating the Owls 6-5. The Cougars won the Region XIV- Division III Championship in 2019, the first regional championship in program and school history.

A newly revised baseball schedule for the upcoming spring season will be released soon.
