Carthage, TX- The Coastal Bend College baseball team brought home a 6-2 victory over Panola College on Friday afternoon. CBC traveled to Northeast Texas for a weekend series with Panola College. Unfortunately due to weather conditions, the series would be narrowed down to only one game.
Preston Allen earned the win for the Cougars as he started on the bump. Allen pitched six innings, allowing two runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking one. Coastal Bend Right Handed Pitcher, Logan Henderson threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
CBC Third Baseman, Damian Rodriguez put the Cougars on the board in the Top of 3rd when he smacked a ball up the middle, into centerfield for a two RBI Single, scoring Johnny Garza and Isaiah Aguilar on the play. Later in the inning, Ben Hovda added to the Cougars lead when he crossed homeplate off an attempted pickoff move at second base. The Cougars completed the top half of the frame with a 3-0 lead.
In the Top of the 4th inning, Brandon Gonzales scored from Third base following an RBI Double by Garza. The scoring play put the Cougars up 4-0.
Moving to the Bottom of the 6th inning, the Ponies were able to finally get on the scoreboard following a two RBI home run to trim the Coastal Bend lead, 4-2.
The Cougars launched one home run on the day, but it would be a huge at bat for CBC Catcher, Selvin Anderson. Anderson went yard in the eighth inning for a two-run homer, scoring Brandon Gonzales. Coastal Bend was able to hold off the Ponies for the remainder of the game, securing the victory, 6-2.
Coastal Bend College recorded 11 hits on the day versus the Ponies. Keagan Solomon, Johnny Garza, Brandon Gonzales, Isaiah Aguilar, and Damian Rodriguez each had multiple hits for CBC. The boys in blue didn't commit a single error in the field during the ball game.
The Cougars will be back in action at home on Tuesday, February 15th for a Doubleheader versus St. Edwards University. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM at Joe Hunter Field.
