#3 Gators Beat Cougars at Home

Beeville, TX-  Coastal Bend College baseball began conference play on Tuesday, February 22nd versus #3 San Jacinto College. The Cougars hosted the Gators for a nine inning affair

Coastal Bend slowly watched the ball game slip away and couldn't recover in a 4-2 loss to San Jacinto.  The Gators opened the game with a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.

Coastal Bend evened things up at one in the bottom of the second inning when Christian Terranova drew a bases loaded walk, scoring one run.

In the top of the third, San Jacinto broke up the brief tie by scoring two runs off miscues from the Cougars. Following a couple of scoreless frames, the Cougars trimmed the 3-1 deficit in the bottom of the fifth inning to a one run lead for the Gators. 

Jacob Guzman was on the hill for Coastal Bend. Guzman lasted four innings, allowing nine hits and three runs while striking out three and walking one.  

The Cougars then called up Nicholas Muniz from the bullpen. Nicholas Muniz threw five innings in relief. Muniz surrendered one earned run along with four hits. The righty also struck out nine opposing hitters. 

In the top of ninth inning, San Jacinto added an insurance run to increase their lead to 4-2. The Cougars looked to rally late in the game, but came up short.

Coastal Bend tallied seven hits as a team for the game. Victor Armendariz and Ryan Davenport all managed multiple hits for the Cougars. Armendariz went 2-4 at the dish, hitting a double and scoring a run for CBC. Christian Terranova and Eric Martinez each recorded a double for the game.

CBC now holds a 5-6 overall record and falls to 0-1 in conference. The Cougars will face San Jacinto College three more times in the coming days for Region XIV Conference play. Coastal Bend will travel to San Jacinto on Thursday, February 24th for a nine inning ball game at 2:00 PM. The teams will then play a doubleheader on Saturday, February 26th at Joe Hunter Field. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00 PM
