CBC Hardball Squanders Lead Versus Dolphins

Beeville, TX-  Wednesday's game against Alvin Community College left a bitter taste for Coastal Bend College baseball, as they lost the lead late in a 7-4 defeat. The game was tied at four with the Dolphins batting in the top of the eighth when they scored two runs to breakup the tie.

Alvin wasted no time and started off the game quickly by scoring a run in the top of the first. Coastal Bend then opened up an early lead in the second inning when Ben Hovda drew a walk, scoring one run.

The Cougars took a 3-1 lead to the fourth. In the bottom of the fifth inning, CBC tacked on another run to extend their lead to 4-1.

Alvin cut into the Coastal Bend lead in the top of the sixth by scoring two runs. Following a scoreless frame for the Cougars, the Dolphins then knotted the game up at four in the top of the seventh inning, when Nicholas Muniz induced Alvin into hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.

Coastal Bend could not keep their opponents off the bases and allowed them to score two runs in the eighth and another run in the top of the ninth. Alvin's pitching haltered the CBC batter's, winning the ball game, 7-4.

Preston Allen started the game for Coastal Bend College. Allen went five innings, allowing one run on seven hits.

Coastal Bend College collected nine hits for the game.  Garrett Whitaker and Victor Armendariz each collected multiple hits for Coastal Bend College .  Armendariz hit two doubles while Damian Rodriguez also hit for one during the contest.  Whitaker collected two hits and drew a walk for CBC. 

The Cougars will continue Region XIV Conference play as they will travel to Alvin, TX for games two, three and four versus the Dolphins on Saturday, March 12th and Sunday, March 13th. Games will take place at Phillips Baseball Field on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 12:00 PM. Sunday's game will also be played at 12:00 PM.
