Galveston, Tx- On Tuesday, April 5th, the Coastal Bend College baseball team traveled to Galveston as they opened up a four game Region XIV Conference series for the week. Keagan Solomon was an RBI machine on Tuesday, driving in six on three hits to lead Coastal Bend College past Galveston College 13-7 on Tuesday.
The Cougars fired up the offense in the first inning, when Solomon singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run. Coastal Bend tallied an additional three runs in the ninth inning to extend their lead.
Solomon drove in runs on a single in the first, a single in the second, a fielder's choice in the sixth, and a fielder's choice in the ninth. Coastal Bend collected 16 hits in their high-scoring affair.
Jayden Meredith earned the win for Coastal Bend College . The righthander went six and a third innings, allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out two. Jacob Guzman and Ian Sexton entered the game out of the bullpen and helped to close out the game in relief. Sexton and company shut the door on a potential comeback from the Whitecaps and was credited with his third Save of the season.
Damian Rodriguez, Solomon, and Davenport each collected multiple hits for Coastal Bend College. Garrett Whitaker, Davenport and Rodiguez each hit a double during the win. Rodriguez led Coastal Bend College with five hits in six at bats. Ben Hovda led the way with two stolen bags.
As the series shifted to Beeville, for the remainder of the series, Coastal Bend had their work cut for them. The Cougars aimed to make headway in the conference standings as the regular season winds down.
Game two of the series went for Coastal Bend as they won big over Galveston College 11-1 on Friday, April 8th. In the first inning, Coastal Bend College got their offense started by chalking up a run for the games first score.
Coastal Bend College pulled away for good with four runs in the third inning. In the third an error scored one run for the Cougars and Eric Martinez homered on a 0-1 count, scoring two runs.
CBC went on to put up four runs in the fifth inning. Brandon Gonzales and Keagan Solomon all contributed in the big inning with RBIs.
Preston Allen was the winning pitcher for Coastal Bend College . The righthander allowed two hits and one run over five innings, striking out two and walking zero opposing batters. Allen earned his fourth win of the season for the Cougars.
Coastal Bend College socked two home runs on the day. Gonzales went for the long ball in the fifth inning. Martinez put one out in the third inning.
Victor Armendariz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Coastal Bend College in hits. Armendariz and Davenport each hit a Double for the game. Coastal Bend College was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error. Ben Hovda had a game high, three stolen bags during the victory.
On Saturday, April 9th the Whitecaps and Cougars would face off for a doubleheader to finish up the series. Both teams were strong on the hill, but Galveston was just a little bit better at the plate. in a
Cobe Reeves started the game for Coastal Bend College and recorded 21 outs. Reeves took the loss for Coastal Bend College. The lefty went seven innings, allowing three runs on 11 hits and striking out six.
Coastal Bend College fired up the offense in the first inning, when Damian Rodriguezdoubled on a 3-1 count, scoring one run.
In the top of the third inning, Galveston College tied things up at two. Sanchez hit a solo homer.
Galveston College pulled away for good with one run in the fourth inning. In the fourth Reeves induced Rodriguez to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored.
Coastal Bend fought hard to get back into the game, but couldn't string enough hits together to pull out the victory. The Cougars ultimately lost, 3-2 to the Whitecaps.
Victor Armendariz went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead Coastal Bend College in hits. Solomon, Rodriguez and Armendariz each hit a Double for CBC.
For the fourth game of the series, CBC made an attempt to win the series but the Whitecaps had other plans. Galveston jumped out to an early lead an never looked back.
Coastal Bend College watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 16-4 loss to the Whitecaps. The Cougars struggled to put runs on the board and had a tough time defensively containing Galveston.
Galveston College opened up scoring in the first inning, scoring four runs. The scoring output continued in the second and third innings as the Whitecaps scored five runs in each of those frames.
Coastal Bend College notched three runs in the fifth inning. Selvin Anderson and Ryan Davenport each drove in runs during the inning.
Logan Henderson took the loss for Coastal Bend College. The pitcher surrendered nine runs on eight hits over one and one-third innings.
Davenport had homers in the third and fifth innings. Coastal Bend collected seven hits. Keagan Solomon and Davenport all managed multiple hits for the Cougars. Davenport and Solomon each managed two hits to lead CBC.
Coastal Bend moves to 15-24 on the season and 6-19 during conference play. The Cougars will face a tough Alvin Community College team for their next series.
