Seguin, Tx- Needing to get back in the win column, the Coastal Bend College baseball team traveled up Seguin for a nine inning contest against Texas Lutheran University JV. The Cougars ended up finding success in all phases of the game Monday, beating the Bulldogs, 8-3.
Coastal Bend got their offense started in the first inning when Eric Martinez singled on a 3-0 count, scoring one run. In the bottom of the first inning, Texas Lutheran University tied things up at one.
The Cougars created some separation with one run in the third inning. In the third Damian Rodriguez hit a solo homer. CBC then added another run in the top of fourth inning to go up, 3-1.
As the game progressed, CBC added five runs in the top of the sixth to lead the Bulldogs, 8-1. Coastal Bend's big bats were led by Ben Hovda and Martinez, all driving in runs in the frame.
TLU chipped away at the Cougar lead adding one run in the sixth and another in the bottom of the seventh. The Cougars proved to be too much for the Bulldogs, ultimately winning the game, 8-3.
CBC starting pitcher, Javy Rios picked up the win for the Cougars. Rios went six innings, allowing three runs on two hits and striking out two. Johnny Garza threw three innings in relief out of the bullpen.
Coastal Bend hit two home runs on the day. Rodriguez went deep in the third inning with a solo homer. Martinez put one out in the sixth inning with a monster hit over the left field fence. Martinez lead the offensive attack with four RBI's.
Ben Hovda hit for a Double, collected two RBI's and stole three bases in the victory. Alex Garza also hit for a Double. Christian Terranova, Scott Siebenthall, Zach Seigrist and Rodriguez each collected a stolen base in the victory.
Coastal Bend will travel to Alvin, Tx on Wednesday, April 13th for a nine inning Region XIV Conference Game versus Alvin Community College. First pitch is set for 1:00 PM at Alvin Community College baseball field.
