A Closer Look at the CBC Esports Team's Journey for the Fall 2023 Season
Beeville, TX-  Amid the vibrant landscape of collegiate Esports, the Fall 2023 season unfolded with a set of unique challenges for the Cougars. This group, while passionate and determined, encountered some growing pains as their season shaped up. Their level of commitment to improvement remained steadfast, fostering a sense of camaraderie within the group throughout the Fall. 
 
As the semester unfolded, the team acknowledged the challenges of adapting to evolving meta-strategies and refining skills and playing as a unit. While the win-loss record might not reflect their full potential, there were glimpses of growth and promise, hinting at the possibility of future success as the season continues in the Spring.

During competition for the Fall, three teams advanced to the playoffs. One student-athlete, Artest Salazar made it to the second round of the postseason, which was best for the program. Salazar went 6-1 in the regular season and was ranked number two in his pool. He ended up sweeping his opponent in Round One of the playoffs, 4-0. In Round Two of the playoffs, he fell to a competitor from Lorain County Community College in six hard fought games. 

Team Blue for Call of Duty Warzone which consists of student athletes, Devin Sanchez, Carl Elmore, and Nick Villanueva, advanced to the playoffs following a 3-4 record. They faced Northeasten Oklahoma A&M College in Round One and lost, 3-0 to conclude their play in the Fall. 

CBC Team White for Call of Duty Warzone includes Juan Martinez, Jordan Padron, and Savannah Mendez. Team White also obtained a record of 3-4 for the Fall. They would advanced to the postseason and face Harrisburg Area Community College in Round One, but would fall three games to one to wrap up competition play for the Fall semester. 
 
 
 
In individual play, Camryn Atkinson competed in Super Smash Bros Ultimate. She went one and five for her Fall campaign and is looking to rebound come the Spring semester. 
 
Elizabeth Lytle who also competes individually in Super Smash Bros Ultimate, owned the same record as her teammate, going one and five during the semester. Lytle aims to bounce back for competition in the Spring. She also competed in Mario Kart obtained a record of three and four for the Fall.
 
Moving back to Call of Duty, this time for Gunfight, Team Blue who includes Devin Sanchez, Carl Elmore, and Nick Villanueva. The team went four and six during competition play for the Fall and narrowly missed out on the postseason. For Team White Gunfight which has Juan Martinez, Jordan Padron, and Savannah Mendez competing in, went eight and three for the Fall. 
 
Looking into the Fortnite arean, CBC Team White of Juan Martinez, Jordan Padron played well, going six and five for the semester.  CBC Team Blue of Carl Elmore, and Nick Villanueva went one and nine during their time of gameplay. 
 
Lastly, but certainly not least, the CBC Super Smash Bros Ultimate Crew Battle team for the Fall consisted of Camryn Atkinson, Elizabeth Lytle, and Artest Salazar. The team went two and four during the term, and looks to build off their experiences for a better Spring.

Following the end of the Fall Semester, CBC Esports Spring season will resume in late January. Stay tuned for more updates and news in the CBC Esports realm!
