Coastal Bend Men Lose Tough One to Open Conference Play

On Wednesday night, Coastal Bend College knew they would be facing a hot Trinity Valley team. The Cougars would find themselves in an offensive drought for the majority of the first half, going down 15-5 as CBC went seven minutes without scoring. However, the Cougars kept fighting; clawing their way back into the game with hard nosed defense and a spectacular buzz beater by Bernard Randle to cut Trinity Valley's lead to a single point at halftime, 33-32.

The second half would go back and forth between the two ball clubs. Coastal Bend ended up leading Trinity Valley by five points at one point, but it wasn't enough as the Cougars didn't take care of the basketball on the offensive side of the floor. Defensive lapses also played into being a factor as Trinity Valley would take advantage of second chance opportunities with their big, physical post players. Coastal Bend fell short losing 86-76.

Malik Amos netted 24 points in the game for team high. Amos has been the constant scoring option for the Cougars thus far into the basketball season.  Big man, Edmond Franklin would end up grabbing seven rebounds to lead the team. Franklin also contributed nine points to the stat sheet. Guard, Dajuan Madden added 12 points for Coastal Bend to go along with five assists. Point Guard, Rashon Thomas would complete five assists, while also chipping in nine points.

Carliss Robinson, Coastal Bend College Head Men's Basketball Coach stated, "We played against a very talented Trinity Valley team. We were right there with them, Trinity Valley has solid, all around team. Our guys played their tails off. I'm proud of them, especially playing in a tough, hostile environment. We made some runs throughout the game, mainly in the second half; but so did Trinity Valley. What it ultimately came down to, was execution. They executed when it mattered most and we did not. My guys played extremely hard against Trinity Valley. We will get better moving forward. We need to fix some minor details on both ends of the floor before our Region XIV Home Opener against Navarro College, this Saturday."

Coastal Bend's next game will be on Saturday, December 2nd for their first home Region XIV Conference game against Navarro College. Tip-off is set for 4:00 PM.
