Cougars Claw Roadrunners

Cougars Claw Roadrunners

On Wednesday night, February 7th, Coastal Bend Men's Basketball would face Angelina College for a highly contested Region XIV matchup. Both teams looked to gain ground on the other in the conference standings. After tipoff, the game got off to a quick start.  The Roadrunners were able to jump out first, but the Cougars clawed back, just as quick. Coastal Bend would go ahead 15-8 in the first 5 minutes of play but had trouble scoring a bucket as the roadrunners went on a 22-4 run with 6 & half Min left in the first half. Angelina would go ahead 30-17 but not before the Cougars would gain some momentum by hitting shots, forcing turnovers on defense and getting stops to end the half at 37-38 as the Roadrunners hung on to a 1 point lead headed into intermission.

The second half of the game resembled the start of the first half, as both team would continue to match each other with points. The Cougars did a good job of weathering the storm that the Roadrunners would create through the course of the second half. Coastal Bend dug deep and stuck together when the game was tight. The Cougars rallied behind one another and believed in the coaching staff's game plan for the second half. Rashon Thomas led the way with 22 points, shooting four of eight from deep with four helpers. DaJuan Madden stepped up for Coastal Bend in the second half hitting three, three pointers and making it to the free throw line with great lane penetration. Madden made a good impact of the game, both defensively and offensively for the Cougars, as he finished with 21 points, eight rebounds and three assists. Coastal Bend postman, Edmond Franklin came up huge with 14 rebounds to go with his seven points and four blocked shots on the night. Malik Amos also finished in double figures for Coastal Bend, with 11 points. The Cougars as a team would force the Roadrunners to 16 turnovers on the night.  Coastal Bend came put out on top, edging Angelina 71-73. This team win now puts the Cougars to a 9-1 at home record on the season.

Carliss Robinson, Coastal Bend College Head Men's Basketball Coach stated "I thought we executed well at the end of the game. I'm glad my guys were able to follow the game plan and pull out a victory for the home fans. Our guys worked hard and made plays when it mattered most. This was a great win for the program against top competition in our Region. Angelina is a tough and very well-coached team."

Coastal Bend's next game will be at home, as they host Jacksonville College, on Wednesday February 14th at 7:00 PM.
