Cougars Squeak Out Victory in Season Opener

Beeville, Tx- On Saturday, November third, The Coastal Bend Cougars hosted the Fort Sam Houston Rangers for their season opener. Immediately from tip-off, the Cougars jumped out ahead of the Rangers. Eric Porter would nail three consecutive three pointers in a span of less than a minute in the first half to pace Coastal Bend. The big man in the middle, Elijah Moleon would also be a key contributor to CBC's first half scoring with 12 points. The visiting team would hang around in the first half and trim CBC's 12 point lead to four at intermission. 

During the second half, the Cougars and Rangers would battle back and forth. A few of the Cougars stepped up to help net some scoring in, Royce Hunter poured in 12 points, Brian Payton also scored 12 points and Moleon added 11 points to his stat line. Peyton Hardin was able to get in the scoring action by chipping in seven points. As the game see-sawed back and forth, the end of regulation would end up in a 98-98 tied for force overtime. 

The Cougars finally took control of the game in the extended time of play, beating Fort Sam Houston, 112 to 107. Both Kenneth Brown and Payton lead CBC with four points during overtime.

Freshman Center, Moleon lead the team in scoring and finished the game by posting a Double-Double with 23 points and 13 rebounds. Hunter finished second in scoring for CBC with 22 points to go with his seven rebounds and three assists. Payton filled in the stat by adding 21 points, nine assists and two steals to his name. Cougar Guard, Charles Callier also posted a Double-Double with 13 tallies and snagging 12 boards. Hardin also completed his stat line by pacing for 11 points and six rebounds and two assists. Porter helped the Cougars by adding nine points from three, triples and three steals for the contest. Fellow big man, Cory Holt contributed nine points off the bench and three rebounds on the game. 

The Cougars next Home game will be on Friday, November ninth at 6:00 PM as they host Victoria College.
