Cougars Win in Lufkin!

Lufkin, Tx- The Coastal Bend College Men's Basketball program headed to East Texas on Wednesday for a Region XIV Conference showdown against Angelina College. CBC would face the Roadrunners, fresh off last Saturday's victory against Southwest Texas Junior College. Though the win was out of conference play, the Cougars gained some confidence and momentum heading into the crucial contest. 

The first half of play for Coastal Bend started out well with shots falling in and and solid defensive play. The Cougars played the great intensity and took a 42-30 lead at halftime. 

Coastal Bend began the second half of the game with a 12 point advantage and continued to maintain their lead throughout most of the game. The Roadrunners would rally late to give themselves an opportunity to win the game. After hitting some clutch three pointers to pull within one point, CBC nailed clutch free throws of their own to secure the game and leave Lufkin, Tx with a 77-74 victory.

CBC Guard, Royce Hunter lead the team in scoring with 14 points and collecting three boards. Point Guard, Brian Payton swished in 13 points for the Cougars. Big man, Kenny Brown added 13 points to his stat line while corralling six rebounds and two blocked shots. Guard, Gerald Thomas poured in 11 points, five rebounds and two steals for CBC. Cory Holt came up huge off the bench by netting 10 points and nine boards. 

Coastal Bend will travel to Baytown on Saturday, January 26th for another Region XIV Conference matchup with Lee College. Scheduled Tip-Off time is at 6:00 PM.
