Cougars Claw Seahawks at Home

Beeville, Tx- Coastal Bend College Men's Hoops hosted Lamar State College- Port Arthur on Wednesday night, February 20th for a Region XIV Conference game. The basketball matchup was orginally set for February, 2nd but transportation issues forced both teams to reschedule. 

The Cougars, with their postseason hopes on the line, had to come out of the game with a victory with only three games remaining. A win over the number two team in the South Zone Division,  would increase the chances for CBC to advance to the Regional Basketbal Tournament. Heading into the game, the Seahawks held a 7-6 conference record with a 17-9 record overall. 

The contest started out with both ball clubs would match each other basket for basket throughout the first half of play. The Cougars and Seahawks played with great intensity and passion on both sides of the court. After trading leads, Lamar State hit a late three to take the lead into intermission, 46-45. 

During the second half, CBC turned up their defense on the Seahawks which lead to open three pointers and fast break buckets. The Cougars ended up building a 20 point lead. Lamar State would get back into the game by full court, pressure, but the deficit was too much as time was in favor of Coastal Bend. The Cougars stuck with the game plan, converting on free throws, open looks on fast break and three pointers. Coastal Bend finished the game, winning by 13 points, 109-96. 

Coastal Bend Guard, Royce Hunter shot 6-9 from three point land,  totalling him at 25 points to go with 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals for the game. Guard, Gerald Thomas added 19 points and five assists for the Cougars. Center, Elijah Moleon netted 17 points and collected four rebounds. Forward, Peyton Hardin scored 15 points to go with his seven rebounds and three steals for CBC. Guard, Bernard Randle added 11 points off the bench while dishing out seven assists and nabbing three steals. Guard, Eric Porter chipped in seven points off the bench, going 2-2 from deep while snagging down three rebounds and collecting four assists. Charles Callier also netted seven points off the bench while grabbing four boards. 

The Cougars improve to 4-10 in conference and 8-13 on the season. Coastal Bend's next game, will be there last Home game of the season as they host Lee College on Saturday, February 23 at 4:00 PM.
