Beeville, Tx- Coastal Bend College Men's Basketball beat Lamar State College- Port Arthur on Wednesday, February 12th by two points. The Cougars clawed their way to a much needed home victory versus the Seahawks, beating them 74-76.
In the first half of the game, LSCPA jumped out in front of CBC, 15-2 to begin the game. The Cougars stayed composed and followed the game plan to trail by only two points at intermission, 37-35 in favor of Lamar State.
During the second half of the ball game, both teams took their fair share of scoring runs while still keeping the game close. There were seven times the score was tied and 11 lead changes between the Cougars and Seahawks, while neither team took a lead larger than five points.
Trailing by two points, 74-72, with under a minute remaining in regulation, Coastal Bend Point Guard, Lance-Amir Paul hit a three pointer to give CBC a one point lead. On the next possession for the Seahawks, the had two opportunities to take the lead but the ball rimmed out. CBC Center, Elijah Moleon corralled the rebound and split a pair of free throws to give the Cougars a two point lead. Again, Lamar State would have one last possession but came up short, missing both shots under the basket as the final buzzer went off.
The Cougars were led by Forward, Eric Conner, who had 21 points, and seven rebounds on the night while shooting 6-12 from three point range. Moleon finished with 19 points and cleaned the glass with 13 boards and two blocked shots. CBC's Paul completed the game by recording 15 points, five rebounds and two assists. Off the bench, Caleb Elsey provided a boost with eight points and three rebounds.
