Cougars Fall to Thunderbirds in New Mexico

Hobbs, NM-11/18/2023

The Beeville Boys played New Mexico Junior College on Saturday night in front of a large crowd. The playoff atmosphere made for an intensely competitive game from the tip off. The Cougars battled for 30 minutes of the 40, tying the game 7 times. They also led by as much as 3 late in the first half but could not overcome the Thunderbirds depth. When the final buzzer sounded the Cougars fell 88-113 to the top 25 ranked T'Birds.

The Cougars were led by Treylon Swayzer's gritty 20 points. Jeremiah Anderson and Caleb Hill both combined for 30 points, 8 points and 8 assists and Keagan Moncrief added 14 points on 6-7 from the field. New Mexico was able to lean on their bench play outscoring the Cougars 17-50.

The loss drops the Cougars to 6-2 on the season but was a good gauge of their abilities come conference time. Coach Martinez stated after the game, "I thought we battled hard for a good majority of the game. At the end we just ran out of gas. Those guys have a lot of depth over there and we just couldn't match it. Tough loss but we learned a lot about ourselves tonight".

CBC will travel home to play their next game against Strenght N Motion Prep on Tuesday November 21st at The Den.
