Soccer Splits on Final Weekend of Regular Season

The CBC Men's Soccer spent the weekend losing, winning and preparing for the playoffs as they hosted both a conference and non-conference match at Cougar Field.

Saturday had Region XIV rival Laredo Community College come to town, as the Cougars looked to avenge their loss to LCC earlier this month in Laredo.  That game was played in a driving rain storm, but beautiful sunny south Texas skies wouldn't help the Cougars, as LCC scored twice in the opening stanza.  CBC would cut the lead to a single goal on a Thomas Stead goal mid-way through the second half.  The goal fired up the Cougars, but the Palominos were able to stay back on a defense and hold on for the one goal victory and a regular season sweep of their foes.

With the win, LCC secures the third seed in the upcoming Region XIV Men's Soccer tournament, while the Cougars take the fourth seed.

Sunday saw the Cougars host the club team from Texas A & M Corpus Christi in a friendly, the Cougars scored early and often jumping out to a commanding 4-0 lead before intermission as Kyle Hayter scored a pair of goals, while Thomas Stead, and Callum Smith added one each.  The second half the Cougars relaxed and played keep away, and attacked when able as Enzo Guerico scored the fifth and final goal of the match.

The Cougars finish the season 10-6, with all six losses coming in Region XIV play.
