Cougars Split Weekend Matches, Hold Off Jaguars on Youth Soccer Day as Benjamin Scores a Hat Trick

Beeville, Tx-  For the first match of the weekend, the Coastal Bend College soccer team hosted #3, Nationally Ranked, Tyler Junior College for an Friday afternoon Region XIV Conference match. Friday's match would mark the second time in less than a week that CBC would face a ranked opponent.

The Cougars defended the Apaches well until the 20th minute of the first half, as TJC scored off a header from a corner kick. CBC continued to play, unfazed by the matches first goal, but the Apaches extended their lead with 10 minutes before halftime to lead, 2-0.

In the second half of the match, the Cougars played much better defensively as a team. Unfortunately, shots were difficult to encounter, as CBC only had three shots on goal for the match.

Tyler went on to beat Coastal Bend, 3-0. The loss put CBC at the .500 mark, 2-2 on the season.

On Saturday, September 14th, the CBC soccer program held "The South Texas Youth Soccer Day" versus the Jacksonville College Jaguars. The Cougars looked to bounce back after their tough loss to Tyler Junior College the day before.

Coastal Bend jumped out to an early lead, as Mogammad Benjamin scored off a corner kick from Lucas Paixao. The match stayed competitive as both teams played with high energy for the remainder of the first half.

Moments into the second half, Benjamin would score his second goal of the match as he was assisted by Charlie Osborne. A few minutes later, Paixao cut into the scoring action with an assist from teammate, Ryan Lewis. The Cougar led the Jaguars, 3-0 with approximately 35 minutes left in the contest.

The three score lead would not last long, as Jacksonville quickly scored a goal to cut into the Coastal Bend lead. Minutes later, Benjamin drew a penalty kick and capitalized, scoring his third goal of the game for a hat trick. CBC led 4-1 over JC with 25 minutes left of game play.

Again, leading by three, the Jaguars would not give up, as they would score two goals in a span of five minutes to make it a 4-3 match with 20 minutes remaining. Coaching adjustments became crucial down the stretch for both clubs, but CBC stood firm and tightened up their defensive play whenever it mattered most. The Cougars held the Jaguars off the scoreboard for the remainder of the match, mitigating their shot attempts.

Coastal Bend finished the match victorious, beating Jacksonville, 4-3. The Cougars improved to 3-2 in Region XIV Conference Play with the win.

CBC will be on the road for their next two conference matches as they travel to Lufkin, Tx for a match against Angelina College on Friday, September 20th at 5:00 PM. On Saturday, September 21st, the Cougars will be facing Blinn College in Brenham, Tx at 7:00 PM.
