CBC Ties with Blinn; Colchado Scores Game Winning Penalty Kick to Propel Cougars Over Angelina

Beeville, Tx-   On Friday, October 18th, Coastal Bend College soccer hosted the Blinn College Buccaneers for a Region XIV Conference match. The match would be played in the afternoon with playoff seating on the line for both clubs, as the regular season draws to a close.  CBC faced the Bucs earlier this season in the month of September, but lost in a shoot-out, 5-3 in Brenham, Tx.

Coastal Bend and Blinn both fought equally for possession in the opening moments of the match. During the 18th minute of play, CBC's Charlie Osborne broke the scoreless match with a goal. Donal Rahill received credit for the assist. Fifteen minutes later, Emile Rudd added to the lead, as he headed in a goal from teammate Callum Dean. At halftime, the Cougars would hold a 2-0 lead over the Bucs.

In the second half, Blinn picked up the pace and as the match intensified. The Cougars continued to play solid defense, but came up short on the offensive side of the pitch to add to their lead. Blinn was able to capitalize on penalty kicks twice during the second half of the match to tie up the game.

After 90 minutes of play, regulation ended in a tie, 2-2. Both teams would play allowed two, ten minutes halves of play for overtime, with the matches next goal being the game winner. After two scoreless overtime periods, the match concluded in the Cougars first tie of the season.

Coastal Bend Goalkeeper, Zachariah Simpson recorded eight saves on the match. 


The Cougars would have a day off in between matches, as they hosted Angelina College on Sunday, October 20th for an afternoon showdown. Exactly a month earlier on September 20th, CBC traveled to Lufkin, Tx to face the Roadrunners for the first meeting of the season. Angelina and Coastal Bend had the nets on fire as both teams combined for 12 goals in the match. Unfortunately, CBC fell 8-4 to the Roadrunners. 

The Roadrunners were quick to the punch as they scored the matches first goal to take a 1-0 lead. Not to be dettered, the Cougars quickly tied up the match in the 24th minute of play. Ryan Lewis scored a goal from teammate, Pradeep Stampa to knot the game up at 1-1. Both teams would be tied after the first 45 minutes of play.

Moments into the second half, CBC's Emile Rudd scored a goal to put the Cougars ahead, 2-1. Ryan Lewis would be credited with the assist on the scoring play. Coastal Bend defended Angelina well for the next 24 minutes, until the Roadrunners were able to connect on a miscue from the Cougars to tie up the match. As both clubs continued to fight for the next goal, time in regulation expired, forcing overtime. 

Both the Cougars and Roadrunners would play allowed two, ten minutes halves of play for overtime, with the matches next goal being the game winner. The first overtime period came and went, as the match remained tied at 2 a piece. In the second overtime period, CBC drew a penalty kick as Julian Colchado kicked in the game winning goal to defeat Angelina, 3-2. 

CBC Goalkeep, Lewis Tyler recorded 11 saves for the Cougars. 

The Cougars improve to 6-6-1 on the season for both overall and conference records. Coastal Bend is currently in fourth place in the Region XIV standings. CBC will wrap up regular season play on Saturday, October 26th as they will travel and face Laredo College at 7:00 PM.
