Three Cougar Footballers Named to All Region XIV Team

The 2021-22 Coastal Bend College soccer season came to an end with a record of 9-8-1 on the season. However the honors for the program continue to arrive as Region XIV recently announced the All-Region XIV team. Three Cougar student-athletes take plaudits on the team. Charlie Ward, sophomore defender, fellow sophomore Tom Williams and freshman midfielder Hilal Khan.

Williams who hails from Cheshire, England, has now been named All-Region XIV for a second straight season. Williams appeared in 17 out of the 18 games this season for the Cougars and contributed to the team's total of 50 goals and 46 assists for the season with 10 of his own and four assists. Williams, CBC's main goal scoring threat, finished as the top point leader with 25 points.

Fellow sophomore and team captain, Charlie Ward out of Manchester, England was a key figure in the squad, helping the team to 4 shutouts on the season whilst also contributing a goal and two assists as a defender. Coach Butler expressed his delight with the two cougar sophomores, "both William and Ward have been outstanding for our program here at CBC. These lads have been important fixtures in the squad over the past two seasons and they deserve recognition for that."

Rounding out All-Region honors is the newcomer to the Coastal Bend program, midfielder Khan finished the season fourth on points with five goals and four assists. The midfielder out of Manchester, England was a presence on the field throughout the season, playing all 18 games on the season starting 12. "These boys gave it their all this season, and we are excited for what the future holds," emphasized Butler.

Both Ward and Williams will be furthering their education and playing career at the university level next fall.
