Beeville, TX — Coastal Bend College Cougars celebrate their home opener with a dominant 3-0 victory over Northeast Texas Community College. The Cougars took advantage of three first half goals to gain control early and force the Eagles to stress through the match. The Cougars got two goals by Forward Jake Mangan in the 15th and 24th minutes of the first half and a goal by Forward Raul Aranda in the 33rd minute. After the third goal of the match, the Cougars controlled the time of possession throughout the match.
The Cougars played ball control through the first half to pick their moments to break and attack the Eagles defense. Early opportunities were there for the Cougars as patience was shown by the Cougars attack until the 17th minute, with a free kick that was blocked by the NTCC wall. The Cougars regained possession and crossed into the box with a header by Ulisse Alberti that rebounded to Mangan who fired it into the net for the first goal of the match.
Mangan was not done, as just nine minutes later, the Cougars attacked the Eagles on the right side with a give and go to Forward Dan Gallagher, who passed to a waiting Mangan in the middle of the field, who rockets a ball into the back of the net for his second goal of the match. Continuing the game plan that the Coaching staff put together about being patient and taking advantage of their opportunities: "Today's performance was very impressive. We were patient at the right times and attacked at pace a lot, particularly in the first half."
When asked if this was the most complete performance for the Cougar team this year, the Cougar Coaching Staff seemed to think so: "Possibly, as we dominated for most of the game and were clinical in front of the goal. We've had a lot of great performances already this season. But the difference today is the ability to finish our chances."
The Cougars put away the Eagles early with a push up the left side of the field and outstanding ball movement to create space by Aranda who turned and found an open window past the goalkeeper to make the match 3-0. When asked, Jake Mangan credited the team's preparation in training for the success of today's match: "We prepared really well during the week in training.
We knew how NTCC would set up and where they could hurt us. I think the team did a really good job to start strong early and now allow them a way back into the game. The Cougars will return to the pitch Saturday, September 14th for a Region 14 division home matchup against Paris Junior College at Joe Hunter Field
