Softball To Host Sophomore Day vs. Lamar State on Friday

Cougar softball will put the finishing touches on their 2018 home slate on Friday when they host Lamar State - Port Arthur in another crucial Region XIV - South doubleheader.   Game times are 1:00 and 3:00 pm.  The Cougars currently sit in the fourth spot in the Region XIV South standings at 9-11, while Lamar State sits in sixth at 5-15.  CBC is not in yet, nor is Lamar State out, yet.

The Cougars control their playoff destiny.  One win, should punch their ticket to the Region XIV playoffs for the first time in program history.  They could also move up into third position with a sweep of Lamar State, and next week at Laredo.  "Easy now, let's just focus on the 1:00 pm game on Friday," laughed first-year head coach Stephen Machorro; "one game at a time; Lamar is a dangerous opponent".   In fact, Lamar State throttled the Cougars back on March 23rd 11-1 in five innings; though CBC game back to win game two 8-6.

Friday will also be the last game in Beeville for eight Sophomores who have turned the direction of program during their time in the Navy and Columbia.  Alyssa Garza, Jamie Morales, Sabrina Colon, Mirella Guervara, Haley Sanchez, Lydia Clarke, Aileen Rodriguez, and Kathrina Rangel are all set to play their home finale having propelled the program to its current total of 22 wins - nearly a two fold improvement from 2017's 13 victories; all of which they were a part.

The games will be played at the John R. Beasley Sports Complex, game times are 1:00 and 3:00 pm.  The game will be live streamed and can be viewed by clicking HERE.
