Cougar Softball Ready for Action!

Beeville, Tx- As we begin the 2019 spring semester, the Coastal Bend College softball season is upon us. The Cougars are looking for more success on the diamond this year, as they made CBC history during the 2018 season. Head Coach Stephen Machorro led the Cougars to a 23-26 overall record and went 10-14 during Region XIV Conference play, both school records set during his first season at Coastal Bend. Coastal Bend Softball became the first women's sport in school history to advance to a Regional Tournament.

CBC Softball broke records in team RBI's (Run's Batted In) with 169, team Home Runs with 31 and Runs Scored with 250. Cougars also set single season school records for Hits in a season with 376 and Doubles with 83. Coach Machorro also had a number of sophomores etch their names into CBC history; Outfielder, Jamie Morales also broke a school record for Runs Scored by an individual with 43. Morales also set a school record for Stolen Bases in program history with 28, including 18 this past season which also marks a school record for bases stolen in a season. First baseman, Kathrina Rangel set a school record for RBI's in a season with 30. Second baseman, Mirella "Maya" Guevarra set a school record for Doubles with 17.Pitcher, Lydia Clarke broke the school record for Wins in a single season with 13. 

A solid group returns to CBC for their sophomore seasons in Infielder, Emily Michki, Utility Player, Ashley Soto, Infielder, Kirstie Soto and Pitcher Devon Parsons. Team Captains Michki and Kirstie Soto lead the charge for the Cougars. Emily Michki who started at the hot corner last season produced an average of .264 at the dish, six Home Runs, 12 Doubles with one Triple. Michki knocked in 46 hits, 23 RBI's and scored 33 Runs. Kirstie Soto plays Second Base primarily but is often moved all over the field due to her versatility. Soto hit four Home Runs along with nine Doubles while maintaining a .239 average at the plate. She also scored 18 Runs on the season.

You'll be seeing some new faces this year for Coastal Bend, newcomers include lefty pitcher, Amanda Aguirre is expected to be staff ace. Aguirre is very crafty and highly capable of hitting her spots in the zone. Shortstop, Annette Cardenas joins CBC and is looking to bring her power to the dish and leather to the infield.

Coastal Bend starts their season on January 26th and 27th as they host the Coastal Bend Kickoff Classic. CBC will play Texas Lutheran University at 10:00 AM on Saturday followed by games against Bossier Parish Community College, El Paso Community College and Cisco College. On Sunday they'll play El Paso Community College at 10:00 AM and Angelina College at 2:00 PM for two wrap up the weekend.
