CBC Softball Goes Two for Five During Coastal Bend Classic

Beeville, Tx- Coastal Bend Softball saw plenty of highs and lows during this past weekend's, Coastal Bend Classic. The Cougars played four games on Saturday as they hosted Texas Lutheran University, Bossier Parish Community College, El Paso Community College and Cisco College. Due to rain, the Cougars were only able to play one of their two games scheduled, that being against El Paso CC. 

Game One

For the season opener, the Cougars faced the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs. TLU scored six runs to start out the game vs CBC. Coastal Bend would answer back in the bottom of the second inning with two runs. The Bulldogs would increase their lead by adding seven more runs to put the score at, 13-2. TLU would tack on one more run in the top of the fifth inning to make the score, 14-2. The Cougars would score two more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning, but it would not be enough as the game would be called. The Final score after five innings of softball would be 14-4 in favor of the Bulldogs.

Avery Hearn collected two hits and two RBI's during her three plate appearances. Catcher, Brianna McKeel also collected an RBI. Kirsten Gomez would record her first loss on the season. Gomez went Three and third of an inning, allowing seven hits, seven runs and walking five batters.

Game Three

The Cougars came out swinging after El Paso CC took a one run lead. CBC scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Tejanos scored another run in the top of the third to trail the Cougars, 2-6. The Tejanos ended up tying up the game with four runs in the top of the fourth inning. Coastal Bend would answer with one run to reclaim the lead, 6-7. CBC would put the game away in the fifth and six innings with another seven runs. The Cougars ended up run ruling EPCC by a final score of 14-6 after six innings. 

CBC Shortstop, Annette Cardenas knocked in four RBI's, hitting one Home Run for the game. Designated Hitter, Madyson Parker would go two for four at the plate, collecting two RBI's and a Home Run. Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto went three for four, with three RBI's. First Baseman, Ashley Soto went two for four at the dish, recording four RBI's and two Home Runs. Right Fielder, Avery Hearn also recorded an RBI for CBC. Kirsten Gomez would rack up her first Win on the season, as she entered the game in the fourth inning. Gomez allowed one run off three hits while striking out a Tejano batter.

Sunday's game did not go well for the Cougars. The Tejanos from El Paso CC were able to get revenge and run rule, CBC. Coastal Bend only recorded three hits on the day. A tough break for the pitching staff, as they allowed 13 hits that produced nine runs. The final score ended up being 9-0, EPCC. Devon Parsons would record her first loss on the season.
