Cougars Split Weekend Double Header vs Palominos

Laredo, Tx-  Coastal Bend Softball faced against Region XIV Conference foe, Laredo Community College on Saturday, April 6th for a double header. Saturday's games would mark the first time both ball clubs would see one another during conference play. 

The bats were blasting the ball throughout the game, as the Cougars defeated Laredo Community College 10-7 for the first game on Saturday.

Coastal Bend captured the lead in the second inning. Annette Cardenas drew a bases loaded Walk, scoring one run.

Laredo Community College scored three runs in the second inning to regain the lead, 4-6. 

CBC kept the lead for good with a five run inning during the third. In the third, Catcher, Brianna McKeel drew a walk, scoring one run. CBC Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces hit into a Fielder's Choice, as one run scored. Third Baseman, Emily Michki Singled on the first pitch of the at bat, adding another run. Gonzales, induced Cardenas to hit into a fielder's choice, but one run scored, and Avery Hearn grounded out, scoring one run.

Kirstyn Gomez got the start for Coastal Bend. Gomez lasted seven innings, surrendering eight hits and seven runs while striking out three.

McKeel went two for three at the dish to lead the Cougars in hits. Madysen Parker hit a Double and recorded two RBI's for the game. Shortstop, Cardenas lead the team in RBI's with three. 


The Cougars started Left Handed Pitcher, Amanda Aguirre in the circle for game two of the double header.

Coastal Bend scored the run of the ball game in the first inning, when Shortstop, Annette Cardenas hit an RBI grounded out, scoring one run.

Laredo Community College took the lead in the Bottom of the fourth inning, 3-2 by scoring one run in the fourth inning.

Aguirre went five and a third innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and striking out two. 

The Palominos tacked on another run in the Bottom of the Sixth inning to lead, 4-2.

Kirstyn Gomez entered the game in the Sixth inning, throwing two-thirds of an inning in relief for her outing.

Coastal Bend attempted to rally, but fell short in the end. LCC wound up winning the ball game, 4-2.

CBC tallied seven hits. Center Fielder, Vanessa Garces and Second Baseman, Kirstie Soto both managed multiple hits for Coastal Bend. Soto and Garces all had two hits to lead the Cougars. On the field, Coastal Bend was sure-handed for the game, as they did not commit an error. 

The Cougars move to 21-16 on the season and finish the first round of conference play at 6-6. Coastal Bend will host San Jacinto College on Friday, April 12th and Blinn College on Saturday, April 13th. Both conference double headers are scheduled for 1:00 PM start times.
