Six Cougars Earn Region XIV-South Accolades

The Coastal Bend College Cougar Softball team kept the "Best season ever" motif going this week, with the announcement of the All-Region XIV-South team on Monday.   The team included a new program mark and department high six selections; as well as the program's first, First-Team Selection.  

Vanessa Garces First-Team - The freshman speedster from Edinburg led of the powerful Cougar line-up and patrolled center field.  She led the team with 17 stolen bases on the season while batting .366 at the plate, collecting 56 hits. Garces had 80 Put-Outs on the year and commited only five Errors for a .944 Fielding Percentage.

Annette Cardenas Second-Team - The freshman, big hitting right hander out of Houston was a force at the plate hitting a Region XIV - South, and program record 12 Home Runs. Cardenas also led the team in RBI's with 42 and hit 10 Doubles as she went on to average .356 in the batter's box and a Slugging Percentage of .656.

Kirsten Gomez Second-Team - The freshman pitcher from Deer Park, was the team's ace this season, working 136.2 innings on her way to 14 wins and 60 strikeouts. Gomez appeared in 34 games and made 16 Starts. She recorded one Save on the season and had an ERA of 3.23.

Emily Michki Second-Team - The lone sophomore to take home honors was the other "big stick" in the CBC line-up, but more importantly a true team leader this season.  Michki hit eight Home Runs, 33 RBI's, 16 Doubles on 77 hits to average .418 at the dish while obtaining a .647 Slugging Percentage . The Third Baseman led the team in Hits, with 77.

Avery Hearn Honorable Mention - The freshman Right Fielder from Alvin made an immediate impact this season. Hearn averaged .344 during her plate appearances throughout the year while hitting five Home Runs, 11 Doubles in 39 games played.

Madysen Parker Honorable Mention - The freshman Utility Player from Port LaVaca played in 48 games and started in 46. Parker batted .354 on the season while recording 52 hits, five Home Runs, 11 Doubles and 33 RBI's and a team leading three Triples.
