Cougars Breakeven with Cardinals During Four Game Homestand
Beeville, TX-  Coastal Bend College softball program hosted Trinity Valley Community College for a four game series over the last two days. The Cougars would go up against the Cardinals in two
doubleheaders.
In the first game of the series, the Cougars faced an uphill battle that they could not overcome. It was a tough day on Tuesday for Coastal Bend College, who lost 9-1 to the Trinity Valley Cardinals.
 
Tessa Ramirez started the game for Coastal Bend College. Ramirez surrendered five runs on three hits over one and two-thirds innings, striking out two.
 
Nessa Poncio threw three and a third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Ashley Patterson and Elia Palomo all had one hit to lead Coastal Bend College. Makayla Wesley brought in the only RBI for the game by hitting a single. 

For the second game of the day, Trinity Valley Community College bested Coastal Bend College in a 15-6 ball game. The Cougars struggled to contain the high-powered offense of the Cardinals.
 
Coastal Bend notched three runs in the fourth inning. The Cougars scored their runs on an RBI double by Harley Escamilla.
 
Isabella Gutierrez was in the pitcher's circle for Coastal Bend College. The righthander lasted three and two-thirds innings, allowing 11 hits and 15 runs while striking out one.
 
Emma Horner threw one and one-third innings in relief out of the bullpen. Coastal Bend College racked up ten hits in the game. Elia Palomo and Alana Benitez all had multiple hits for Coastal Bend College.
 
Benitez and Palomo each collected two hits to lead Coastal Bend College. Coastal Bend College stole five bases during the game as two players stole more than one. Escamilla led the way with two.

For games three and four, the Cougars looked to bounce back with some home cooking. Coastal Bend had all their cylinders firing on offense for the first game,  winning big over Trinity Valley, 9-2.
 
Coastal Bend College fired up the offense in the first inning, when Kayla Martinez drew a walk, scoring one run. Trinity Valley Community College Trinity Valley Cardinals Varsity knotted the game up at one in the top of the second inning, when Abigail Garcia singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Coastal Bend College pulled away for good with three runs in the third inning. In the third Martinez singled on a 2-1 count, scoring one run and an error scored two runs for Coastal Bend College.
 
Coastal Bend College scored four runs in the fifth inning. Juliana Dominguez, Elia Palomo, Yadira Lopez, and Martinez each had RBIs in the frame.
 
Haley Smith toed the rubber for Coastal Bend College. The righty allowed seven hits and two runs over seven innings, striking out four. Smith earned the credit for the win. 
 
Coastal Bend College racked up ten hits. Martinez, Lopez, Alana Benitez, and Katelynn Torres all collected multiple hits for Coastal Bend College. Torres, Benitez, Lopez, and Monjares each managed two hits to lead Coastal Bend College. Coastal Bend College was sure-handed in the field and didn't commit a single error.
 

In the fourth and final game of the series, CBC found themselves in a tightly contested game. The Cougars snatched the lead late in the game in a 5-4 victory over the Cardinals.
 
In the first inning, Coastal Bend College got their offense started by capitalizing on an error to score the games first run. The Cougars strung a few hits together to score three runs in the frame.
 
Trinity Valley followed up the CBC scoring with two runs of their own in the top of the second. The Cardinals held the Cougars scoreless in the bottom half of the second. TVCC scored a run in the top of the third to knot up the game, 3-3.
 
The game was tied at three with Coastal Bend College batting in the bottom of the fifth when Yadira Lopez hit an RBI double scoring one run to break up the tie.

Coastal Bend College collected nine hits on the day. Elia Palomo, Lopez, and Alana Benitez all had multiple hits for Coastal Bend College. Benitez, Lopez, and Palomo each managed two hits to lead Coastal Bend College. Kayla Monjares, Benitez also recorded RBI's for the Cougars. 
 
The Cougars imrove to 7-11 on the season. CBC will hit the road for the weekend with doubleheaders versus Navarro College and Tyler Junior College on Friday, March 4th and Saturday, March 5th.
