Travel Woes Continue to Haunt Cougars

Austin, TX- Coastal Bend College softball made a trip to the state capitol on Tuesday, March 8th. The Cougars had a business trip date with Concordia University, a doubleheader matchup with the Tornados. 

CBC jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning. The Tornados trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the second. 

In the top of the fourth inning, the Cougars produced another two runs to increase their lead to 4-1. Again, Concordia did not back down and cut the deficit once more by scoring one run in the bottom half of the frame. 

Following a scoreless fifth inning, while holding a 4-2 lead, Concordia exploded for five runs. The Tornados took a 7-4 lead into the sixth inning. 

The Cougars would be held scoreless in the sixth inning by the Tornados. Concordia then rallied up three runs to extend their lead, 10-4.

Despite a 6-run deficit in the sixth inning, Coastal Bend almost completed a comeback, but eventually fell 10-8 to Concordia for game one. The Cougars scored four runs on a single by Kayla Martinez, a double by Harley Escamilla, a double by Alivia Mata-Alamillo, and a single by Clarissa Morales.  As the game would play out, the Cougars ran out of Outs, ultimately falling, 10-8. 

Isabella Gutierrez was on the rubber for Coastal Bend College. The righthander surrendered five runs on nine hits over four innings, striking out two and walking zero.  Emma Horner threw two innings out of the bullpen.

Coastal Bend College tallied 13 hits.  Alana Benitez , Makayla Wesley , Harley Escamilla , Alivia Mata-Alamillo each recorded doubles for the contest. Martinez, Benitez, and Escamilla each racked up multiple hits for Coastal Bend College. Benitez, Mojares and Escamilla each knocked in two RBI's for the Cougars while Mata-Alamillo helped score a run. 


Looking to breakeven for the day, the Cougars played hard until the final out.  A walk-off left Coastal Bend on the wrong end of a 9-7 defeat to Concordia on Tuesday night. 

The game was tied at seven with Concordia batting in the bottom of the seventh when the Tornados doubled on a 1-0 count, scoring two runs.

Coastal Bend College opened up scoring in the first inning, when Clarissa Morales singled on a 1-2 count, scoring one run.

After Coastal Bend College scored one run in the top of the sixth, Concordia answered with one of their own.  Concordia then answered with a solo homer.

Coastal Bend College put up three runs in the second inning.  Coastal Bend College's offense in the inning came from a home run by Makayla Wesley and a double by Kayla Martinez.

Haley Smith led things off on the rubber for Coastal Bend College. The righthander allowed eight hits and six runs over six and a third innings, striking out six and walking one.

Coastal Bend launched one home run on the day. Wesley went yard in the second inning.

Coastal Bend College tallied 13 hits in the game.  Martinez, Katelynn Torres, Alana Benitez, Emma Horner, and Wesley each racked up multiple hits for Coastal Bend College.  Wesley, Horner, Benitez, Torres, and Martinez each managed two hits to lead Coastal Bend College. 

Coastal Bend was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Martinez made the most plays with six. The Cougars collected 13 hits in the high-scoring affair.
