Coastal Bend Falls to Midland Despite Strong Effort from Jaymie Gonzales

Beeville, TX- Jaymie Gonzales collected three hits in three at bats, but CBC lost to Midland 19-5 on Saturday. Gonzales hit a home run to center field in the first inning, doubled in the third inning, and doubled in the fifth inning.

The Chaps rallied for the victory despite trailing 4-0 in the first.

CBC got on board in the top of the first inning after Janessa Martinez singled, scoring one run, and Gonzales homered to center field, scoring three runs.

Midland flipped the game on its head in the bottom of the first, scoring seven runs on five hits to take a 7-4 lead. The biggest blow in the inning was a homerun to left field by Stewart that drove in three.

A homerun to right field by Bradley, and a line out by Perez helped the Chaps extend their early lead in the second.

Midland scored nine runs on three hits in the bottom of the fourth inning. Westernskow drew a walk, scoring one run, Estrada hit a grand slam to left field, Stewart drew a walk, scoring on run, Rodriguez drew a walk, scoring one run, Subia singled, scoring one run, and Estrada was struck by a pitch, driving in a run.

Ashley Gaitan pitched three innings in relief for Coastal. The righty allowed six hits and 12 runs (nine earned), striking out two and walking six. Briannah Mejias stepped in the circle first for the Cougars. The Starter allowed five hits and seven runs over one inning, striking out one and walking two.
