Coastal Bend Beats Concordia University in Game One; Splits Doubleheader

 Austin, TX- The Coastal Bend College softball team was triumphant over Concordia University 10-5 on Tuesday, March 5th.

 

Coastal Bend was able to get on the scoreboard in the top of the first inning after Janice Corona doubled, scoring two runs, and Sophia Garza singled, scoring one run.

 

Concordia tied the game at three in the bottom of the fourth inning after stringing together a couple of hits. The ensuing fifth inning, both teams were held scoreless. 

 

Coastal Bend flipped the game on its head in the top of the sixth, scoring six runs on three hits to take a 9-3 lead. Sophia Garza provided the biggest blow by singled that drove in two runs.

Sophia Garza started in the circle for CBC. She surrendered 10 hits and five runs over seven innings, striking out three and walking two.

 

Kelsey Perez and Sophia Garza each collected two hits for CBC. Ashley Gaitan, Janice Corona, and Sophia Garza each drove in two runs. Coastal had a strong eye at the plate as well, tallying eight walks.

 

Game Two

Coastal Bend College couldn't keep up with Concordia and ultimately fell 11-5 for the second game of the doubleheader.

 

The Cougars scored first in the top half of the first inning after Sophia Garza grounded out, scoring one run.

 

The Tornadoes captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom half of the inning following a couple of back to back hits and a CBC error.

 

Concordia added one run the fourth via an error committed by the Cougars, making the score 4-1.

 

Ashley Gaitan opened the game for Coastal Bend. She surrendered six hits and six runs (two earned) over three innings, striking out one and walking six.

 

The Cougars currently hold a record of 4-9 on the season as they head into the Region XIV Crossover Tournament in Mesquite, Tx for the weekend.
