Bailey Root, "Coach B", has recently been named the Assistant Coach of the Coastal Bend College softball program. Root joins CBC following a two-year stint as an assistant coach for Schreiner University (NCAA Div. III). Root worked predominantly with the pitching staff.
 

This past season at SU, Root helped lead the Mountaineers to an overall record of 16-24 and a conference record of 9-12. Their success on the field helped them make the postseason and advance to the SCAC Conference Tournament. Closing out the season with 2 SCAC Hitter of the Week honors, 1 Pitcher of the Week honors, 8 players nominated for the ALL-SCAC Team. During the 2022 season, Root helped the team to an overall record of 16-27 and a conference record of 12-9.  Closing out the season with 2 SCAC Hitter of the Week honors, 2 SCAC Pitcher of the Week honors, 1 player named ALL-SCAC 1st team, and a trip to the SCAC Softball Conference Tournament. Root was the head assistant softball coach and pitching coach at Schreiner University. While at Schreiner, she was responsible for all pitching staff operations, planning mental meetings with players, planning travel arrangements, managing practice plans, and assisting with budget management for the softball program.  Root is originally from Silsbee, Texas and attended Silsbee High School. After graduating, Root attended Copiah-Lincoln Community College and was a member of the Lady Wolves Softball Team primarily as a pitcher. Root received All-State Honorable Mention in 2017 and was named MACJC 1st Team All-State in 2018.  After leading the Lady Wolves in the circle, Root amassed a 19-15 record with 169 strikeouts and a 2.83 ERA. On the offensive end, Root had 87 at-bats and hit .287 with 18 RBIs and four home runs.  

After two years, Root went on to Belhaven University as a member of the Blazers Softball team. She spent three years playing at Belhaven, due to being granted a Co-Vid year. While there, Root mainly pitched, but also spent some time at Shortstop. Root received Honorable Mention at Shortstop for ASC All-Conference Team 2019, ASC watch List 2019, NCCAA Mid-East All-Region Team 2019, ASC East Division Pitcher of the Week 2020, Softball Player of the Year at Belhaven 2020, and 3rd team Honors ASC All-Conference Honors 2021. After leading the Blazers in the circle, Root amassed an 18-19 record with 137 strikeouts and a 3.58 ERA. On the offensive end, Root had 150 at-bats and hit .307 with 19 RBIs.

Root obtained a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Belhaven University.
