#19 Angelina Beats Coastal Bend At Home

Beeville, Tx- This past Saturday on December 8th, Coastal Bend College hosted #19 nationally ranked, Angelina College for a Region XIV Conference match-up. The Cougars started off conference play with two wins in a row and winning four out of their last six games entering the contest.

Immediately after tip-off, the Cougars drew first blood from the Roadrunners. That, in which started the trend of both teams trading baskets on each other. Angelina took the lead, 15-11 after a competitive first 10 minutes of play. The second quarter started and the Roadrunners took off on a 28-6 run with the momentum they gained from the first quarter of play. The Cougars didn't help themselves, as they accumulated turnovers and had defensive lapses, along with poor shooting on the offensive side of the court. At the break, Angelina had a commanding lead, 43-17.

The second half of play would be a different story for the Cougars, as they played with more energy on both sides of the ball. Coastal Bend saw more shots fall for them, than the previous half, along with a better defensive effort. The Cougars outscored the Roadrunners during the third and fourth quarters by a combined five points. In the fourth quarter with tough, relentless play the Cougars were able to get back in the game as they closed the scoring gap to 15. Unfortunately, the lead Angelina built in the second quarter would be too much for CBC to overcome. The final score of the contest would end up being in favor of Angelina, 76-55.

Coastal Bend Guard, Aubrey Guerra lead the team with 12 points scored while also grabbing six rebounds and four steals on the game. Guard, Marley Martinez tallied 11 points and corralled two rebounds. Forward, Emiko Hemphill fell one point and one rebound short of another Double-Double performance for the Cougars. Guard, Jada Mitchell netted eight points and snagged down four rebounds. Point guard, Francheska Aguino chipped in five points for CBC along with gobbling up seven boards to go with her team leading five assists.

The Cougars will resume play from Christmas and New Year's break in Louisiana as they'll play against LSU-Eunice back-to-back on January 4th at 6:00 pm and January 5th at 2:00 pm.
