Slow Start Hinders Cougars On The Road

Lufkin, Tx- On Wednesday, December 11th Coastal Bend Women's Basketball traveled to East Texas for Region XIV Conference Game with Angelina College. This would mark the first meeting between both ball clubs, with the second contest being in Beeville, later on in February.

Slow starts to the games have been the achilles heel this season for the Cougars. To begin the game, CBC racked up nine points to the AC's 19. As the second quarter played through, Coastal Bend trailed the Roadrunners, 23-38 at halftime.

In the third quarter, it was a mirror image of the first quarter as the Cougars scored eight points in the frame compared to Angelina's 17. Heading into the fourth quarter, CBC found themselves down, 31-55. The Cougars caught fire, scoring 25 points but it was not enough to overcome the scoring debt they had dug themselves from earlier in the game. Coastal Bend ended up falling to Angelina by a final score of 56-71.

Coastal Bend Forward, Aubrey Guerra led the Cougars in scoring with 16 points, shooting 50% from three point land. Guerra also grabbed six rebounds and had two assists and three steals for the game. Post player, Tianie Johnson provided an solid presence in the paint, scoring 12 points and corralling seven rebounds. Guard, Cassie Hogan netted eight pints for the Cougars while posting three rebounds, and two assists for her stat line. Essence Richards also had a nice night for CBC, scoring six bounds and snatching 10 rebounds. 

The Cougars fall to 0-2 in conference play this season and move to 1-11 overall. Coastal Bend will be back in action on Saturday, December 14th as they travel to Eunice, LA for a matchup with the LSU Eunice Bengals at 2:00 PM in the HPRE Center.
