Cougars Fend Off Jaguars to Win First Conference Game

Beeville, TX-  On Monday, January 22nd the Coastal Bend College women's basketball squad won a hard fought game against Jacksonville College by a final of 60-51.  The game saw very little scoring in the first half but Coastal Bend went into halftime up 28-20.  The third quarter was the only quarter Coastal Bend failed to win but they carried a 41-35 lead into the fourth.  They finished with 19 points in the fourth to win 60-51 for first conference victory.  The Cougars improve to 5-11 overall and 1-2 in conference play.

"It is a very hit or miss team especially since our team is built on the three pointer.  We went 7 out of 42 tonight from downtown and there were lots of shots down and out.  We have to get more consistent from downtown.  We did make enough stops and set our season high in steals.  We are playing tough and when the shots fall watch out."  Coach Purswell said.

The Cougars are currently 17th in the nation in made three's at 138. Coastal Bend also set a game high record for steals with 22.

Leaders in the stat sheet:

FR-Eliza Rodriguez with 15 points, 11 rebounds, 7 assists, and 4 steals.

SO-Cieara Dinwiddie with 12 points on 4 for 6 shooting from 3 point range

SO-JayDee Zamora with 9 points, 4 rebounds, 3 assists, and 6 steals

The Cougars will be back in action on Wednesday, January 24th as they host Blinn College at 5:30 PM at the Peter S. Marecek Physical Fitness Center.
