Purswell is entering his seventh season as Head Coach for the Women's Basketball Program at Coastal Bend. In his sixth season, the Cougars went 5-25 and 0-16 in conference.  Five sophomores graduated and two of those went on to four year schools to continue playing.  The Women's Basketball Team one Region 14 Honorable Mention All-Conference player.  

In his first season, the women’s program was 3-27 and featured two honorable mention all conference players.  In his second season the Cougars werer 8-23 with a regional tournament qualification and two honorable mention all conference players.  The team also had most conference wins and beat three schools for the first time.  In his third season, the Cougars went 2-28 and 1-17 in conference.  Nine of eleven cougars graduated while one was named an NJCAA Academic All-American, and another one named a Region 14 Honorable Mention All-Conference player.  In his fourth season, the Cougars went 4-19 and 2-14 in conference.  The lone sophomore on the team graduated and is continuing her academic career.  The Women's Basketball Team also had three NJCAA Academic All-Americans and one Region 14 Honorable Mention All-Conference player.  The cougars qualified for the Region 14 tournment for the second time in Purswell's tenure and program history.  Coastal Bend has produced two top ten scoring teams in history under Purswell 67.9 PPG and 65.7 PPG in 2020-21 and 2018-19 respectively, as well as being eighth in the nation in 2020-2021 in three pointers made at 203 and 11th in free throw percentage that same year at 71.3 percent.  In his fifth season, the Cougars went 3-26 and 1-15 in conference.  10 sophomores graduated and six of those went on to four year schools to continue playing.

Previously Purswell served as an Assistant Coach at Frank Phillips College in Borger, TX for four years. While on staff at "Frank", Purswell worked with both the women's (2013-2015) and men's (2016-2017) programs as the Assistant Coach, handling recruiting, training, scouting, and academic enhancement. Purswell also served as an Adjunct Mathematics faculty member at "Frank"; a position he also has at CBC.

Purswell begin his basketball playing days at Borger High School, before attending Frank Phillips College, where he earned the Academic Plainsmen of the Year Award ('09), NJCAA Distinguished Academic All-American ('08) and Phi Theta Kappa membership ('08 and '09). After graduating with his Associate in Science, Purswell extended his academic career at West Texas A & M University, graduating with his Bachelor degree in 2014. Purswell completed his Master's Degree in Athletic Administration in May of 2017.

Purswell was raised in Borger, TX by Rodney and Kathy Purswell alongside his three sisters Sarah, Leah, and Bekah. A few hobbies include going to visit family and seeing nieces and nephews, traveling, and cattle ranching with his Dad.
